Sophia Sabsowitz is a Russian-American mixed media artist living and working in Atlanta, Georgia. She received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University.
Sabsowitz’s paintings capture a psychedelic fusion of colors that take over canvas to create luminous, captivating works reminiscent of biomorphic and geological forms. Sophia uses abstract painting to interpret her own perception of the boundary between the visible and the invisible; questioning our relationship to the world around us. She explores the complex spiritual relationship and connectivity between biology and geology on a macro and micro level.
Sophia’s most recent work integrates painting with photography to manipulate and distort the feminine figure. Her new work externalizes fluid painting onto the human form and into the ether surrounding the body and the spirit.
Her primary materials include solvent based paints, oil and resin. She uses non-traditional painting techniques including pouring, layering and hand altering, to compose vibrant abstract paintings.
